403 Forbidden Bar Brings Mumbai’s Iconic Permit Room Culture to Bengaluru with Permit & Co

Bengaluru : Bengaluru’s immersive cocktail destination, 403 Forbidden Bar, continues its acclaimed OVERRIDE_TAKEOVER series with an exclusive collaboration featuring Mumbai’s celebrated Permit & Co. on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.

Designed as a platform for cultural and creative exchange, OVERRIDE_TAKEOVER brings together some of India’s most distinctive bar concepts, inviting them to share the stories, traditions and perspectives that define their cities. For its latest edition, the series turns its focus to Mumbai’s enduring permit room culture through one of the city’s most distinctive contemporary cocktail destinations.

Permit & Co. has earned a reputation for translating nostalgia into modern drinking experiences. Inspired by Mumbai’s historic permit rooms, the bar draws on the city’s social and cultural fabric to create cocktails that reinterpret familiar local flavours, beverages and neighbourhood traditions through a contemporary lens.

“Permit & Co. represents a side of Indian drinking culture that many people know about but few have truly experienced,”says Aman Dua, Founder, 403 Forbidden Bar. “Their story is deeply connected to Mumbai’s hospitality heritage, while ours is rooted in experimentation and modern cocktail techniques. OVERRIDE_TAKEOVER is about bringing together bars with a distinct point of view, and Permit & Co. felt like the perfect partner to begin that conversation.”

For one evening, guests will experience a cocktail menu inspired by the flavours, rituals and memories that shaped Mumbai’s social drinking culture. More than a traditional guest shift, the collaboration has been curated as a tribute to the city’s personality, offering Bengaluru audiences an opportunity to explore Mumbai’s legacy through contemporary cocktails and narrative-driven hospitality.

The menu will feature several of Permit & Co.’s signature creations, drawing inspiration from iconic Mumbai references such as Campa Cola, Pallonji Soda, Chowpatty flavours, local snacks and everyday neighbourhood moments, all thoughtfully reimagined into modern meals.

Created specifically for Bengaluru as part of the OVERRIDE_TAKEOVER series, the collaboration aims to foster a genuine exchange between two cities with distinct drinking cultures while celebrating the communities, traditions and stories that continue to shape them.

“What excites me most about Permit & Co. is that they’re preserving a piece of Mumbai’s culture through cocktails,” adds Dua. “At 403, we’re always looking forward, exploring new techniques and ideas. This collaboration allows us to celebrate the traditions that shaped India’s drinking culture while sharing a different perspective with our guests. I think Bengaluru is going to connect deeply with that story.”

Speaking about the collaboration, the Permit & Co. team shares, “Mumbai and Bengaluru have very different drinking cultures, but both cities share a deep appreciation for hospitality and community. We’re excited to bring a piece of Mumbai’s hospitality legacy to 403 Forbidden Bar and introduce Bengaluru to the flavours, memories and stories that inspire our bar. We’re looking forward to sharing those stories across the counter with a new audience.”

As OVERRIDE_TAKEOVER continues to evolve, 403 Forbidden Bar remains committed to creating experiences that go beyond cocktails, offering guests an opportunity to engage with the people, cultures and ideas shaping India’s contemporary hospitality landscape.
