Cantabil Retail India Ltd., one of the country’s leading apparel manufacturers have been partnered with Apna Ghar, a shelter home dedicated to providing refuge and care to homeless and destitute individuals in and around Delhi. While the shelter offers its residents a safe space to live, many continue to battle loneliness and the feeling of being forgotten by society. Through this initiative, Cantabil aimed to go beyond material support and bring moments of care, dignity, and human connection to some of Delhi’s most vulnerable individuals.
Through a deeply intentional CSR initiative, Cantabil team visited Apna Ghar to spend time with its residents as people showing up for other people, rather than mere benefactors distributing essential supplies.
The initiative was anchored in four key pillars of holistic welfare: compassionate care, human connection, nourishment, and recreation. Each of these was chosen with purpose. Health and hygiene kits addressed immediate physical needs. Conversations, stories, and shared songs addressed something harder to name but just as urgent: the need to be heard. A lovingly served nourishing meal with seasonal fruits and an afternoon of games and gentle movement reminded residents that joy, too, is something they are entitled to.
Finally, before leaving, the Cantabil team contributed medical rescue kits to the shelter, ensuring that the impact of the day is long-term rather than a momentary gesture.
“We are incredibly grateful to join hands with Apna Ghar and extend a helping hand to the shelter residents,” said Poonam Chahal, Head, Legal and CS, Cantabil Retail India Ltd. “Initiatives like these remind us that the measure of a company is not just what it produces, but what it stands for. Rather than being viewed as charity, these residents need to be seen as individuals who need to be reminded that they are valued. The day we spent with them truly left a lasting impression on us. We will continue to extend our efforts to ensure a positive impact on the shelter’s residents. After all, business can and must be a force for good.”
For Cantabil, the initiative reflects a growing conviction within the company that sustainable business must be paired with sustained social commitment. The association with Apna Ghar is part of a broader effort to build meaningful, long-term relationships with communities and organisations that are doing the quiet, unglamorous work of caring for those society has left behind.
To carry the story further, Cantabil has released a short documentary film capturing the day at Apna Ghar. Rather than a highlight reel of activities, the film focuses on the human moments: faces lighting up mid-conversation, the quiet pause before sharing a memory that an individual has kept to themselves for years, and the simple joy of looking and feeling one’s best.
