Wadi: ACC along with the Adani Foundation, through its CSR initiatives at ACC Wadi, is helping women in rural Karnataka move from financial uncertainty to enterprise ownership — one household at a time.
Bhima Bai from Ravoor village knew exactly what her family needed. What she did not have was a way to provide more of it. With a household income of Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 8,000 per month, meeting basic needs was possible. Saving was not. Paying for her children’s education required choices that no parent should have to make repeatedly.
In 2024, she joined the Renuka Yellamma Self Help Group supported by Adani Foundation. The SHG gave her something she had not had before — access to credit and the kind of entrepreneurial guidance that helps a person turn an idea into an income. With a small loan from the group, Bhima Bai started making brooms by hand. It was a modest beginning but it was hers entirely.
Her work was consistent and her instinct for the business was clear. Adani Foundation took note. In 2025, the Foundation provided her with a broom making machine — a single intervention that changed the scale of everything. Production that had stood at 200 brooms a month jumped to 500. The enterprise that had started as a supplementary income became a significant one.
Today, Bhima Bai’s family earns Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 17,000 per month. Her children’s education is no longer a source of anxiety. The household that once ran on Rs. 7,000 a month now runs with room to breathe, room to save and room to plan.
Bhima Bai did not wait for her circumstances to change. She changed them — with a loan, a machine and the backing of Adani Foundation at ACC Wadi. Her story is one of many that the Foundation is quietly building in the communities surrounding its operations, each one a reminder that the distance between hardship and stability is often shorter than it looks when the right support arrives at the right time.
