 From Bhupen Goswami

GUWAHATI : The management of the popular Kamakhya temple in Assam has taken a major decision in view of the threat of corona virus. The Kamakhya temple management says the Ambubachi Mela will not be held this year in view of the second wave of corona virus. The fair was scheduled to be held on June 22-26 but in view of the threat of corona, the temple management has decided not to hold the fair. The Kamakhya temple management says that the second peak of the corona may have gone but the risk of corona still persists. This is the first time in 500 years that this temple was built in the 15th century that the Ambubachi Mela will not be held for the first time. At the same time, no devotee will be allowed to join it. More than 10 lakh people attend the fair every year.

It was informed by the temple administration that worship will definitely be performed during the Ambubachi Mela. Kamakhya Temple is considered to be one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of the country. The goddess is worshipped here as a vagina. According to mythology, Sati ji had taken agni samadhi in anger with her father. During this time, Lord Shiva was roaming around the three worlds with his burnt body. On this, the deities urged Lord Vishnu to cut the body of Sati ji from the Sudarshan Chakra. After that, they were worshipped wherever their limbs fell. Satiji’s vagina fell in Assam, where the Kamakhya temple is built. Every year a special fair is held here, which is called ambubachi festival.
