GUWAHATI: In yet another major breakthrough, police busted an inter-state drugs trafficking racket and by recovering 2 kg of heroin worth Rs 6 crore from two persons, including a woman at Laharijan along Assam-Nagaland border in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Thursday night.
“#Assam Against Drugs Pursuing an old case@Karbi Anglong pol have busted an inter-state gang of smugglers, arrested 2 persons & seized 2 kg heroin. The total recovery in this case now is 4.848 kg heroin and this serves a major blow to the gang. Kudos @assampolice @DGPAssamPolice,” chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a tweet.
The consignment weighing 2.17 kg was divided in 150 packets. of fine quality heroin having a street value of Rs 6 crore in Tier-I and Tier-II cities.
The arrested have been identified as Rozi Rongmei (52) and her husband Angma Kamei. Both are residents of Lahorijan bordering Nagaland.
The seizure was a follow up on the case after the arrest of drug kingpin Didi, AKA, Th Paone, Barpather PS case no. 30/21, U/s 21 (c) NDPS Act where 64 soap cases containing 723 grams of heroin were recovered on May 25.
“We have been looking for Rozi since last one month as we wanted to catch her red-handed. A dedicated team was formed to keep a round the clock surveillance on her movement and her residence which is located close to Nagaland border under Khatkhati police station. After much effort and planning, we managed to collect her contact number and placed one of our sources as a customer to strike a deal. Yesterday, she came to deliver the consignment and landed in our trap,” Karbi Anglong superintendent of police Pusparaj Singh told reporters here.
Earlier, Didi was arrested along with 2.2 kg of heroin from Nagaland border following a lead of Barpathar police station case No 30/21 registered under section 21 (c) of NDPS Act wherein 64 soap cases containing 723 grams heroin was recovered from a woman passenger on May 25. A single case followed up by the police involving female narcotics dealers led to recovery of over 4.8 kilograms heroin in the past couple of months.
