GUWAHATI : The former Assam Deputy Inspector General of Police has been arrested on Tuesday from the Assam-Nepal border in Kakarvitta, the main accused in the Assam Police SI examination scam. He was arrested by the Special Branch of Darjeeling District. Dutta was arrested when he was on his way to Assam along with his son-in-law. The Assam Police DIG PK Dutta, the prime accused in the police sub-inspector recruitment scam, has been arrested in Nepal, an Assam police source said.police and CID arrested PK Dutta. He is being brought to Assam and can reach Guwahati by tonight.
Deka and former DIG PK Dutta are absconding as soon as the scam unfolds, who is said to be the main mastermind in the leak of the question paper.After heavy public outrage, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal ordered a speedy probe, which resulted in PK Dutta eventually being arrested in Nepal. Asam police raided Dutta’s residence on Rungkonar Path in Hengbari besides the investigation team and Several of his hotels and properties in Guwahati and Dibrugarh were also raided. Another prime accused former BJP leader Diban Deka surrendered to the police and is being questioned at the Assam Police SB branch in Guwahati.
The Assam Police Sub Inspector Recruitment Examination had to be canceled following the alleged leak of question paper on social media. This written examination was conducted for the recruitment of 597 posts of Sub Inspectors in Assam Police. Due to which the paper was leaked, this exam was canceled. Now it is planned to conduct this exam again on 22 November.The Assam Police had issued a lookout notice for the arrest of Deka and PK Dutta and also announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh each for providing information about them. So far, more than 30 people associated with it have been arrested. Meanwhile, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Tuesday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from the state Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for the Assam Police Sub Inspector (SI) recruitment written examination question paper leak case.
