Atlassian today announced it is expanding its productivity tool Trello to support Model Context Protocol (MCP). AI assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Cursor can now create boards, organise cards, update checklists, and manage work directly in Trello. Users of both the free and paid versions of Trello can easily use the feature without any coding skills.
The expansion follows Atlassian’s MCP ecosystem, the open standard that lets AI assistants take action inside work tools, achieving 1 million monthly active users since launch.
How Trello MCP works:
Users simply paste a single URL into their AI assistant of choice (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible tool), authorise access, and start prompting. The assistant can then create boards, add and move cards, build checklists, and summarise upcoming tasks, all through natural conversation.
Unlike competitors that require OAuth app setup or marketplace installs, Trello MCP is a simple copy-and-paste.
