The Bombay High Court rebuked the Maharashtra Government on Monday for issuing recruitment advertisement; reserving 16 percent vacancies for Maratha community even as petitions challenging the reservation are pending before the court.
A division bench of Chief Justice Naresh Patil and Justice M S Karnik asked the government why it was in such a rush to fill up the positions.
The court said such irreverent situations should be avoided and that the government should give courts some breathing space to hear the petitions.
The advertisement issued by Maharashtra Public Service Commission was brought to the court’s notice by Advocate Gunaratan Sadavarte.
The government counsel, V A Thorat, however defended the ad saying that the entire process of filling up the vacancies will take almost a year as the final exam is scheduled to be held in July 2019.
