Death of Jayalalithaa:  TN Govt orders probe against Sasikala and three others

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has ordered an inquiry into the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The investigation is against Jayalalitha’s  personal aid Sasikala, former Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar, Dr Sivakumar and former Chief Secretary Ramamohan Rao. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin announced the decision in the cabinet meeting held on Monday.

Chief Minister Stalin ordered an inquiry based on the report submitted by the Arumugaswamy Commission, which investigated Jayalalithaa’s death and the treatment she received during her 75-day hospital stay.

The commission formed to probe Jayalalithaa’s death submitted its report after five years. On September 22, 2016, Jayalalitha was brought to the hospital in an ambulance from Poe’s Garden in a semi-conscious state. She spent 75 days in the hospital. On December 5, 2016, the news of Jayalalitha’s death was released by hospital sources.
