Deprivation Of Conjugal Relationship Amounts To Extreme Cruelty, Delhi HC Observes

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has observed that depriving a married couple of their conjugal relationship and each other’s company is an extreme act of cruelty.

In a case where a husband sought a divorce due to cruelty by his wife, the court upheld the family court’s decision. The court noted that the couple, who married in 2012, lived together for only ten months and had been separated since.

The ongoing deprivation of companionship and conjugal relations was deemed a severe form of cruelty, resulting in constant mental distress for the husband. The court also emphasised that such actions, including the wife locking herself in a room, created a pervasive atmosphere of fear and mistrust, damaging the matrimonial relationship.
