Edappal Hospitals makes history: Triplet gathering in Kochi enters Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records

Kochi: Edappal Hospitals has achieved a remarkable milestone on the international stage, with a rare gathering of nearly 100 triplets (three children born in a single delivery), earning recognition in both the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.

The historic event, titled Triple Joy, was held at Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty and is believed to be the first time in the world that a hospital has organised such a large gathering of triplets born under its care. Edappal Hospitals Chairman Dr. K. K. Gopinathan received the official record certificates from representatives of the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records at the event.

The event was jointly inaugurated by Hibi Eden MP and Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal. Among those present were Bal Kiran IAS, Joint Secretary – Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Edappal Hospitals Managing Director Chitra Gopinathan, CEO Gokul Gopinathan, Medical Director Dr. Parasuram Gopinathan, Medical Superintendent Dr. Meenu Batra and Rashmi Gokul.

The programme began with an instrumental music performance by visually impaired artists, followed by the screening of a video chronicling the hospital’s 30-year journey. A special interaction session with Dr. K. K. Gopinathan and testimonials from families of triplets added emotional depth to the occasion.

The audience was also captivated by a musical performance from Master Eden John Kurien, who was born through IVF treatment. A special screening of the Vava Rap video was another highlight of the event, featuring contributions from Vishnudat Santosh, Vasudev and others, based on the concept by Shabarish Varma.

According to studies, triplets are typically born only once in around 6,000 deliveries. However, among the nearly 1.2 lakh births recorded at Edappal Hospitals so far, the hospital has witnessed the birth of around 300 triplets and more than 3,000 twins, an extraordinary achievement with no comparable record reported by any other hospital globally.

Hospital authorities attribute this milestone to their advanced IVF and ICSI fertility treatments, expert obstetrics and gynaecology care and state-of-the-art NICU facilities, which together have played a crucial role in handling high-risk multiple pregnancies successfully.
