Elena Rybakina and Iga Świątek knocked out of Wimbledon

In the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, Belgium’s Elise Mertens produced a stunning upset by knocking out second seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 7-6, 6-1 in the third round to book her place in the women’s singles Round of 16 yesterday. In another major upset, the Philippines’ Alexandra Eala defeated third seed Iga Świątek of Poland 7-6, 6-2 in the third round to advance to the Round of 16.

In the Men’s singles, second seed Alexander Zverev of Germany advanced to the fourth round, defeating Marcos Giron of the United States in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, 6-4, in their third-round match. Today, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic will face Roman Safiullin in a Round of 16 clash, while top seed Jannik Sinner of Italy will take on Japan’s Shintaro Mochizuki. In the women’s singles Round of 16, top seed Aryna Sabalenka will face Japan’s Naomi Osaka.
