Eminent scholar, Majuli Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami passes away

Narayan Chandra Goswami, the venerable sattradhikar of Majuli’s Notun Kamalabari Sattra passed away in Guwahati’s Nemcare Hospital on today.He was 80. Goswami was reportedly suffering from liver cirrhosis and was admitted to the Nemcare Hospital in the city’s Bhangagarh locality. Goswami had been keeping unwell for a long time. He was admitted to a Guwahati city hospital on December 5, 2019, and then with the support from the State Government he was shifted to Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi on December 17. He was released later that month. Narayan Chandra Goswami was a leading Vaishnavite saint and was also noted for his proficiency in the Sanskrit language. The saint was known for his work on the Brajawali language and neo-Vaishnavite traditions and Sattriya culture.Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal , Assam Governor Proff Jagadish Mukhi,Assam’s chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also mourned the death of the Satradhikar.Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has deeply condoled the demise of Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami. In a condolence statement, the Minister said, ‘Satradhikar Narayan Chandra Goswami of Notun Kamalabari Satra, Majuli was an erudite scholar of Brajawali and Sanskrit language. His works and contributions are treasure trove of Satriya literature and culture. His demise is an irreparable loss to our society’. The Minister also prayed to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul.
