Experion Foundation Inaugurates Women’s Empowerment Centre in Edamalakudi, Marking a Milestone in Compassionate Community Development

Edamalakudi Panchayath, Idukki District, Kerala | 29 May 2026: Experion Technologies, through its CSR arm Experion Foundation, inaugurated the first Women’s Empowerment Centre under Project EDEM – Edamalakudi Development and Empowerment Mission at Thenparakudi Unnathi, Edamalakudi Panchayath, Idukki District.

Created for women of the Muthuvan tribal community, the centre is designed to provide a safe, hygienic, and dignified living space rooted in care, cultural sensitivity, and community wellbeing. The initiative marks a significant milestone in Experion Foundation’s ongoing efforts to support underserved communities through meaningful, need-based interventions.

The centre responds to a deeply personal and long-standing need within the community. Respecting local customs and cultural practices, the centre has been designed to provide women with a safer, cleaner, and more dignified space during menstruation, when they traditionally stay away from their homes.

Equipped with hygienic toilets, a kitchen, resting facilities, sewing machines, television with DTH connectivity, and storage space for handicrafts and creative work, the centre goes beyond temporary shelter. It has been envisioned as a place where women can rest with comfort, connect with one another, engage in productive activities, and experience a greater sense of dignity, independence, and belonging.

The Women’s Empowerment Centre also introduces a practical model of empowerment that begins with everyday dignity. By improving access to safe spaces, hygiene, skill-building opportunities, and community support, the initiative seeks to strengthen women’s wellbeing and confidence while remaining deeply respectful of the traditions that shape their lives.

Speaking about the initiative, Suresh Panicker, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer, Experion Technologies said, “Project EDEM holds a very special place in our journey of compassionate service because it began with listening. In 2023, during a back-to-school support initiative across tribal schools in Idukki, Edamalakudi was the one place we could not directly reach because of poor road connectivity, forest-route restrictions, and complex permissions. That moment stayed with us and led us to listen more closely to the lived realities of the community. Through conversations with teachers, residents, and community members, we came to understand the difficult conditions faced by women in certain traditional spaces. We realised that traditions rooted in generations cannot be approached with judgement or haste. But dignity can be introduced within tradition. That thought became the heart of Project EDEM.”

The implementation of Project EDEM involved significant on-ground challenges. Poor road connectivity made the transportation of construction materials difficult, while clearances and approvals from multiple government departments added complexity. Unpredictable weather conditions, difficult terrain, local conventions, and disturbances from wild animals further tested the project team during the implementation phase.

Despite these challenges, the project moved forward with the support of government officials, tribal leaders, volunteers, community members, and well-wishers. Their collective effort helped transform the idea into a functioning community space dedicated to women’s wellbeing.

“What stands before us today is not just a completed building,” Suresh added. “It is a promise that even the quietest struggles of women in the most remote communities deserve to be heard. This centre is a symbol of hope, dignity, and collective compassion.”

The inauguration of the first Women’s Empowerment Centre at Thenparakudi marks the beginning of a larger mission to create safer, more dignified, and more empowering spaces for women in Edamalakudi. Guided by its values of empathy, ethic and excellence, Experion remains committed to creating impact beyond technology — by giving back to communities with purpose and compassion.
