Raksha Bandhan, the festival of the special bond between brothers and sisters, is being celebrated today across the country. On this occasion, sisters tie colourful Rakhi around the wrist of their brothers and pray for their prosperity, health and well-being. In return, brothers pledge to protect and support their sisters and present them gifts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted the people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today. In a social media post, Mr Modi expressed hope that the festival of Raksha Bandhan brings happiness, prosperity and success to everyone’s lives. He also wished that the bond of love, affection and mutual trust remains strong and unbreakable forever.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has extended greetings to countrymen on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. In his message, Mr Birla said the festival celebrates the mutual love, affection, and trust between brothers and sisters. He noted that the festival symbolises India’s rich culture, family values, and the unbreakable bonds of affection and belonging.
The Lok Sabha Speaker added that Raksha Bandhan is not merely a festival of tying a sacred thread of protection but is a celebration of trust, respect, love, and the lifelong commitment to stand by one another. He said that the bond between a brother and sister is considered one of the purest relationships in the world, as there is neither selfishness nor any condition attached to this relationship.
He underlined that in India’s culture, the meaning of protection is not limited merely to ensuring the safety of sisters but also represents a commitment to protecting the respect, dignity, rights, and dreams of women. The Lok Sabha Speaker emphasised that when every daughter and every sister in society is safe, respected, and able to move forward with confidence, the nation will become truly stronger and more empowered. He urged everyone to take the resolve to always preserve love, trust, and open communication within families.
