GUWAHATI : The death toll in floods and landslides across the state has risen to 92 this year. Meanwhile, an official said that five animals, including leopards, have been killed in floods in The Kaziranga National Park in Assam this year. Many rivers are flowing above the danger mark. The floods in Assam are taking a terrible form.
The number of flood victims is increasing every day. At the same time, two policemen have died due to the flood. According to information provided by the police, two policemen, including the in-charge of a police station who had gone to help the people trapped in the floods in Nagaon district, were washed away in the strong current of water and their bodies were recovered on Monday. State Special Director General of Police G P Singh said that after getting information about the flood, Kampur police station in-charge Samuzal Kakoti reached Pachonijar Madhupur village by boat along with four police personnel after receiving information about the flood late on Sunday night. He said the policemen fell into the overflowing river from the flood waters and were swept away in the strong current.Two policemen were rescued and SDRF personnel recovered the bodies of two. Of these, kakoti’s body was recovered in the wee hours of Monday after several hours of search.
The other policeman has been identified as Rajiv Bordoloi. “We salute the courage and valour of Sub-Inspector Samuzal Kakoti and Constable Rajiv Bordoloi. Nagaon district has been badly affected by the flood in Sam and 3,64,459 people have been affected by the flood in the Kopili river in Kampur. Officials said a total of 88,41,146 people have been affected in 34 districts due to the floods and 92 people have lost their lives so far. On the other hand, most of the animals have died in the floods in Assam’s Kaziranga National Park (KNP), and 10 of them have been rescued so far this year, an official statement said on Monday.It said that more than 18 per cent of the park area has been submerged by the Brahmaputra river, which passes through it, which flows above the danger mark at many places. According to the flood report of KNP, eight animals were injured due to heavy flooding. Seven hog deer with two pythons have been abandoned after treatment. The water level in Pasighat and Dibrugarh is below the danger mark, but in Nematighat, Dhansirimukh and Numalighar, the water level is above the danger mark. Another hog deer, which was rescued by forest officials and locals during the floods, took the number of animals to eight this year. The report said two pythons were also rescued without any injuries. Eighteen per cent of the total park area has been submerged so far. The total park area at present is 858.98 sq km. According to the report, out of a total of 223 camps inside the KNP, 55 have been flooded.
