Hyderabad : An Indian hair regeneration research platform that has grown from clinical work in India into an international portfolio of patents, publications and products has added another milestone to its journey with the grant of a new Indian patent.
QR678®, developed from research that has deep roots in India and includes Hyderabad, has received an Indian patent for an integrated hair growth system comprising a shampoo, hair growth serum and nutraceutical supplements. The patent, titled “Kit for Promoting Hair Growth,” was granted on 24 July 2026 by the Indian Patent Office to Dr. Rinky Kapoor and Dr. Debraj Shome, Clinician Scientists and Research Mentors at QR678®.
For Hyderabad, the development has a particularly strong local connection. Dr. Debraj Shome’s research journey in hair restoration began in part during his tenure as Head of Aesthetic Surgery at Apollo Hyderabad. That early clinical and research experience has since contributed to a much larger programme spanning intellectual property, clinical research, product development and international expansion.
Today, the QR678® story extends well beyond a single hair treatment. The platform has over 22 published research papers, a growing international footprint across 20+ countries, and is currently trusted by more than 5,000 doctors worldwide. More than 150,000 patients have been treated using QR678® driven products.
The research journey has also resulted in multiple generations of products. The latest patent adds to an intellectual property journey that began almost a decade ago. QR678® received its first USA patent for hair growth in 2017 and its first Indian patent in 2019. The company has continued to build on that foundation through further research and product development.
The scientific story is also supported by clinical evidence. A multicentric clinical study led by Prof. René R. W. J. van der Hulst from the Netherlands evaluated QR678® Suite, QR678® NEO and their combination in 300 patients with early stage hair loss, including both men and women, over a six month period.
The study reported significant improvements in hair growth, hair quality and scalp health across the treatment groups. The combination of QR678® NEO and QR678® Suite showed the strongest outcomes, with the Global Hair Growth and Hair Quality Index increasing from 7.03 at baseline to 17.8 after treatment. The same combination recorded the highest Follicular Revival Index, increasing from approximately 1.1 to 2.2, representing a reported 93.4% improvement. The platform has also progressed internationally. QR678® records regulatory milestones in the Gulf, including MOH approval in Kuwait and other GCC countries, followed by launch in the EU and UK.
