Gujarat HC Orders Quick Action on Cyber Harassment Complaint

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, Ahmedabad, to expeditiously decide a pending representation related to alleged social media harassment committed by Pranay Singh Bhadoria, Pankaj Singh Prasun, and other individuals. The representation was originally submitted on June 17, 2025, but no action had been taken by the authorities since then.

The order was passed by Justice M.R. Mengdey while hearing a Special Criminal Application filed by complainant Kapil Sharma, who approached the Court after repeated attempts to seek action from the Cyber Crime Cell failed to yield a response. Sharma stated that he had been receiving objectionable, disturbing messages and online harassment, prompting him to file a detailed complaint before the Cyber Crime authorities.

Taking note of the delay and the lack of response from the police, the Court directed the DCP–Cyber Crime to consider and decide the pending representation “as expeditiously as possible, preferably within eight weeks” from the date of receipt of the order. The Court emphasized that timely action in cases involving social media harassment and cyber intimidation is crucial, especially given the increasing number of digital abuse complaints in the state.

The order reflects the judiciary’s growing emphasis on timely intervention in digital abuse cases, including cyberbullying and online harassment. With cyber-related offences on the rise, the Court’s directive aims to strengthen accountability within law enforcement agencies and ensure complainants are not left waiting due to administrative delays.
