Shilpi Gupta, the founder, and the designer of House of Shilpi Gupta premiered at Earthloom- The Threads of Heritage at Bharat Tex 2025 by Aalekh Foundation and Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi with on February 17, 2025. The runway soiree witnessed the designer’s new collection Kanakmani, capturing fifteen unique and voguish looks that promoted sustainability and encouraged traditional craftsmanship. The showstopper, Sheetal Mallar dazzled in an exquisite piece that reflected the timeless elegance in modern silhouettes.

Derived from Sanskrit/Hindi word, Kanakmani, the “Golden Jewel” evoked an image of something precious, radiant, and timeless, especially inspired by gold zari, heirloom textiles, or handloom craftsmanship. The designer worked hand in hand with skilled artisans to curate a collection where the pieces are equivalent to some kind of antique art passed on from generations to generations – a mother gifting to her daughter and then the daughter gifts her daughter. The pieces are designed keeping affordable luxury in mind as the label really values the handcrafted and handmade Indian products.

Each of these silhouettes reflected an amalgamation of modernism and traditionality, making them little chic and classy, while interpreting history. The contemporary draping styles and innovative way of putting the blouses paired up with jackets and capes make every look mesmerising. In her words, “Our concept is all about gold and silver, since we believe that India is and was Sone Ki Chidiya (golden bird). Having that pitara (box)full of khajanas (treasures), we can offer a lot to the market. Each of the woven threads in our collection is all made with silver and a gold zari and we are bringing this pitambari, nilambari, shatavari, karwa, and bhoota in each of the pieces of the curated collection.”
