Hyderabad Toofans Appoint Paul Revington, ‘Revs’ As Head Coach

At a time when Indian hockey is witnessing renewed momentum, Hyderabad Toofans today announced the appointment of internationally acclaimed coach Paul Revington, “Revs” as Head Coach as the Hockey India League franchise looks to build on its bronze-medal finish in its latest second season. Widely regarded as one of the world hockey’s most respected high-performance leaders, Revington joins the Resolute Sports-backed franchise with a clear mandate to build a championship-winning culture, develop future Indian internationals and help take Hyderabad Toofans to the next level.

In a season that marked the return of the Hockey India League (HIL) after a seven-year hiatus, Hyderabad Toofans quickly emerged as one of the competition’s most exciting teams. In its Maiden season of 2025, Toofans already proved its metal by securing Silver Medal. The team capped in its second season with a dramatic 4-3 victory over HIL GC to secure the bronze medal and announced once again itself as an established force in Indian hockey. For Hyderabad Toofans, however, the podium finish is only the beginning.

The appointment of Revington signals Hyderabad Toofans’ ambition to build on its early success and establish itself as one of India’s leading hockey franchises. Beyond competing for titles, the franchise aims to nurture future Indian internationals, strengthen its high-performance environment and contribute meaningfully to the long-term growth of hockey in India. As part of this vision, Hyderabad Toofans is building a world-class high-performance programme that integrates elite coaching, sports science, performance analysis and athlete management to help players consistently perform at the highest level.

Paul Revington, Head Coach, Hyderabad Toofans, said: “Indian hockey is witnessing a remarkable resurgence. The success of the national team on the Olympic stage and the return of the Hockey India League in 2025 have created tremendous momentum and an invaluable platform for young players to learn from some of the best talent in the world. What drew me to Hyderabad Toofans was the ambition of the organisation and the strength of the foundation it has built in such a short period of time. Joining the most consistent Franchise which is the only team to make it to playoffs in both the seasons, eager to add further value in coming sesasons. Our immediate goal is to win the Hockey India League and build on the incredible momentum that this franchise has created.”

Alok Sanghi, Chairman, Resolute Sports, said: “Our both Hockey India League campaigns of 2025 & 2026 reinforced our belief in the immense potential of hockey, and the role sport can play in inspiring communities and creating opportunities. Hyderabad Toofans was created with the ambition of building more than just a successful team; we want to create a platform that nurtures talent, inspires the next generation and contributes to the long-term growth of Indian hockey. The appointment of Paul Revington is an important step in that journey, and our ambition is to establish Hyderabad Toofans as a benchmark franchise for excellence both on and off the field.”

Widely regarded as one of hockey’s foremost high-performance architects, Rivington brings more than two decades of elite coaching experience to Hyderabad. He guided Great Britain and England to silver medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the 2023 European Championships, consecutive podium finishes in the FIH Pro League and a rise to World No. 2 in the FIH rankings. A former FIH Men’s Coach of the Year, he has also led South Africa to Olympic qualification and helped Ireland qualify for the Olympic Games after more than a century.

Revington is no stranger to Indian hockey. Having previously worked in the Hockey India League and coached extensively within Asia, he brings a deep understanding of the region’s hockey ecosystem and player pathways.

Sai Prakash K, CEO, Resolute Sports, said: “For talent to shine, it needs a platform and an environment that encourages growth not only for athletes but for the wider sporting ecosystem. Our ambition is to build an organisation that goes beyond the field of play by creating pathways for future generations of hockey players, investing in sports science, innovation and player development while strengthening the connection between the franchise and the hockey community. Revs brings a wealth of global experience and a proven ability to build winning cultures, and his appointment reflects our commitment to continuously raising the bar both on and off the field.”

With Paul Revington at the helm, Hyderabad Toofans now enter a new phase one defined by the pursuit of championships, the development of future Indian hockey talent and the ambition to build a lasting legacy for the sport.
