IMD develops technology to assess water level in rivers and reservoirs

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has developed a new technology to assess the rise of water level in rivers and reservoirs during rain.

The technology, called ‘Impact Based Forecasting Approach’, which shows pre-event scenario, can help state governments to minutely monitor the impact of rain and take real-time decisions.

Speaking at an event organised by the Centre for Science and Environment in New Delhi Friday evening, IMD Director General KJ Ramesh said, the department  is in a position to use the technology into service to deal with natural disasters like the recent deluge in Kerala.
