The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of Gujarat and the remaining parts of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan during the next four days.
The met department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Madhya Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, East Rajasthan, Telangana and Vidarbha till tomorrow.
The weather agency also predicted heavy rainfall conditions over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Marathwada, West Rajasthan and the southern parts of the country today.
Delhi witnessed light rain today, bringing relief to people from the prevailing heat and humid conditions.
Meanwhile, Heavy rainfall disrupted normal life across several parts of Maharashtra today, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
The National Disaster Response Force has been deployed in sensitive areas to ensure a swift response to any potential emergencies amid the incessant rain.
The weather department has also warned of the possibility of flash floods along the Konkan coast and in parts of Central Maharashtra due to the continuing heavy rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and the ghat areas of Satara, Pune, and Nashik. Water levels in rivers across Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Palghar districts are rising, with officials closely monitoring the situation.
Heavy rain has been lashing Mumbai since morning, marking the fifth consecutive day of persistent rainfall across the city and its suburbs. Suburban train services on all three railway lines are running with delays of around 10 to 15 minutes, while road traffic remains largely smooth.
Rain is also continuing in the catchment areas of the dams that supply water to the city. Schools and colleges have declared a holiday for the afternoon session due to the heavy downpour. The civic body has appealed to citizens to step out only if necessary.
Due to an intensifying low-pressure area over the north-west Bay of Bengal and the adjacent area, the districts of south Bengal may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. Some parts of Kolkata and adjoining areas experienced rainfall today.
A yellow alert has been issued for South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram and Bankura districts. Rainfall with lightning with winds of 40 km to 50 km have been forecast in other districts of South Bengal. Sporadic rainfall with thunder showers is forecast over the districts of north Bengal today.
