KCL Reports 614.3 Million Global Viewership in Debut Season, Exceeding PKL’s Reported Audience Figures

NEW DELHI : The Kabaddi Champions League (KCL) has reported 614.3 million global viewers across television and over-the-top (OTT) platforms in its inaugural season, exceeding the 435 million television viewers reported by the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) during its debut season in 2014.

The KCL figures, attributed to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) and Zee Network, highlight the league’s reported audience scale and its potential to expand kabaddi’s reach through broadcast and digital platforms. However, the figures cover different reporting scopes and should not be treated as a direct, like-for-like comparison.

KCL’s reported viewership highlights growing audience potential

Against this historical backdrop, KCL’s reported 614.3 million global viewership across television and OTT platforms marks a significant debut for the league, according to figures shared by its organisers.

The league hasseparately reported a cumulative television and OTT reach of 101.91 million. These are distinct audience measures and should not be added together.

KCL is targeting viewership of more than 1,000 million in Season 2 as it seeks to build on its inaugural-season performance and expand its presence across broadcast and digital platforms.

The reported audience scale could create opportunities for sponsors, franchise owners, broadcasters and commercial partners. A wider audience can provide brands with additional avenues for visibility and engagement, while franchises can use regional marketing, community initiatives and digital content to strengthen their connections with supporters.

For players, a growing league ecosystem can create more opportunities for professional competition, visibility and commercial partnerships. Sustained growth will depend on consistent audience engagement, effective distribution and the league’s ability to convert reach into long-term commercial value.

Season 2 expands to 10 franchises

KCL’s second season includes two additional franchises, Jhajjar Jaguars and Kurukshetra Knights, taking the competition to 10 teams.

The player auction, held on October 17, 2026, featured a total player purse of ₹5 crore, with more than 300 players expected to go under the hammer. The expanded structure is intended to provide a larger platform for athletes while strengthening regional representation and franchise participation.

The addition of two teams creates opportunities for more players to compete at the franchise level and for local stakeholders to participate in the professional kabaddi ecosystem. It could also help franchises build regional fan bases, develop commercial partnerships and increase engagement with local communities.

KCL’s target of more than 1,000 million viewers in Season 2 represents an increase of approximately 62.8 per cent over its reported inaugural-season figure of 614.3 million. Achieving that target will depend on audience demand, broadcast distribution, digital consumption and the competitiveness of the tournament.

Opportunity amid the reported absence of PKL

The reported absence of PKL from the 2026 calendar could provide KCL with an opportunity to attract additional kabaddi viewers, sponsors and commercial partners during the period.

With no PKL season taking place during this period, KCL may benefit from greater visibility among kabaddi followers and additional opportunities to establish its own audience identity. Its expanded 10-team format and multi-platform distribution strategy provide a foundation for pursuing that opportunity.

Multi-platform distribution remains key to growth

KCL’s reported performance across television and OTT platforms underlines the importance of multi-platform distribution. Television can provide broad audience access, while digital streaming can offer additional viewing options and opportunities for audience interaction.

The league aims to attract more fans, younger viewers and commercial partners while strengthening the visibility of participating franchises. Consistent distribution, competitive matches, effective promotion and transparent audience measurement will be important to sustaining that growth.

Cumulative viewership report

According to figures attributed to BARC and Zee Network and shared by KCL, alongside historical PKL figures:

•  614.3 million: KCL’s reported global viewership across television and OTT platforms in Season 1.

•  101.91 million: KCL’s separately reported cumulative television and OTT reach.

•  435 million: Reported television viewers for PKL’s inaugural season in 2014.

•  1,000 million-plus: KCL’s stated viewership target for Season 2.

KCL’s reported inaugural-season audience provides a benchmark for its next phase of expansion. With two additional franchises, a ₹5 crore player purse and a target of more than 1,000 million viewers, the league is seeking to strengthen its position in the kabaddi ecosystem.

Its long-term impact will depend on whether it can sustain audience engagement, expand commercial partnerships and translate its reported reach into lasting opportunities for athletes, franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the wider sport.
