Kidney Cancer is Increasing Due to Pollution: Research Report

From Bhupen Goswami

GUWAHATI : Environmental pollution has led to a change in the type and trend of cancer in the country, revealed in a high-level research conducted by doctors of the Doctor B Boruha Cancer Institute (BBCI) and Tata Cancer Research Institute in Guwahati. , A research institute focused on lung and breast cancer trends, which has been published in the international journal Advances in Human Biology.Till now it was believed that increasing air pollution causes asthma and lung cancer, but increasing air pollution also increases the risk of membranous nephropathy disease ie kidney disease.

High-level research doctors at the B. Borua Cancer Institute (BBCI) and the Tata Cancer Research Institute have said in this report that kidney cancer cases are increasing rapidly in India. Smoking is the main reason for increasing number of kidney cancer patients, but environmental pollution is one of the main reasons. In India till now, after 60 years, people used to see cases of kidney cancer, but in the last 10 years, even people aged 40 years have started getting this disease. The main reason for this is smoking, tobacco consumption as well as pollution which has reached dangerous levels. Till now it was believed that increasing air pollution causes asthma and lung cancer, but increasing air pollution also increases the risk of membranous nephropathy disease ie kidney disease.

BBCI director Dr Amal Chandra Katki said that the increasing incidence of cancer in the country could be partially explained and the increasing population and life expectancy could increase, leading to an expected increase in the number of cancer patients. The doctor of the research institute said that the number of cancer patients is increasing worldwide. Talking about India, according to ICMR, at present there are 22.5 million people suffering from cancer, while every year about 11 lakh new cancer patients are identified. On the other hand, if we talk about deaths due to this, then this number has doubled in the last 15 years. Every year, about 8 lakh people suffering from cancer die. Kidney cancer is the third cancer in urinary cancers.

The doctor’s research report says that eating out, eating the wrong daily routine, not treating hypertension and eating too much meat are some of the reasons Kidney causes great harm. Eating too much meat can also cause cancer.Lack of awareness about pollution is also increasing every year for kidney cancer patients. Therefore, such habits should be changed as soon as possible to remain healthy. However, a changing pattern of cancer may not be due to risk factors already prevalent in the population as a whole. Curbing environmental pollution has inherent health benefits and will have profound economic benefits in addition to preventing cancer as well as the loss of life from non-communicable diseases, the doctor said.Mention here that researchers from Tata Cancer Institute and B. Barua Cancer Hospital conducted this study for about twelve and a half years to find out the effect of air pollution in kidney diseases. The study began in the year 2007.
