Thane : KIMS Hospitals, Thane, announced the launch of “KIMS SATHI – Save A Tiny Heart Initiative”, a dedicated program aimed at supporting children with congenital and critical heart conditions through comprehensive and compassionate care. This formal initiative was launched after KIMS Hospitals Thane completed treatment of more than 200 children within 6 months of starting under the visionary leadership of Dr. Srinivas L. This initiative of KIMS Hospitals Thane and these children has been supported by Rotary Clubs and major corporates on a continued basis.
The initiative was formally launched in the presence of esteemed dignitaries along with distinguished guests from Rotary Club, healthcare, NGOs, corporate CSRs.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) remains one of the most common birth defects globally. In India alone, an estimated 200,000 children are born with congenital heart disease every year, with nearly 25–30% requiring immediate medical or surgical intervention within the first year of life. However, due to limited access to primary diagnosis, limited centers for Pediatric Cardiac treatment, affordability challenges, and lack of awareness; most of these children do not receive timely treatment.
KIMS SATHI is designed to address this critical gap by going beyond conventional hospital care and building a strong ecosystem of Pediatric Cardiac Team (including Pediatric Cardiologists, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons, Anesthetists, Intensivists, paramedical staff), NGOs, Corporate CSRs, volunteers, and support staff. The initiative focuses on enabling access to life-saving cardiac surgeries and treatments for children, supported by collaborative funding and community participation.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Srinivas L., Chief & Senior Consultant, Pediatric Cardiology, said, “KIMS SATHI is a tiny step towards ensuring that no child is deprived of timely cardiac care due to lack of access or awareness. Early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve outcomes in congenital heart diseases. Studies show that early intervention can greatly reduce mortality and morbidity in critical cases.”
Dr. Sunil GS, Chief Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, added, “With advancements in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, survival rates have improved tremendously, with success rates now exceeding 95%. Through this initiative, we aim to extend these benefits to more children, especially those who may not otherwise have access to such specialized care.”
Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao, Chairman & Managing Director, commented, “At KIMS, our vision has always been to deliver world-class healthcare with compassion. KIMS SATHI brings together multiple stakeholders to create a meaningful impact in Pediatric Cardiac care and truly reflects our commitment to society.”
Dr. B. Abhinay, Chief Executive Officer, said, “This initiative strengthens our belief that healthcare extends beyond hospital walls. By integrating medical expertise with community support, we can make advanced treatments more accessible and impactful. Currently, only about 1 in 5 children in India who need pediatric cardiac surgery receive it—an imbalance we aim to change. We plan to expand this initiative across all KIMS Cuddles units to provide more cover.”
Mr. Saurabh Gupta, Regional Director, KIMS Hospitals, added, “KIMS SATHI reflects our commitment to strengthening regional healthcare ecosystems by making specialized pediatric cardiac care more accessible at the community level. Through this initiative, we aim to bridge critical gaps in awareness, affordability, and access, ensuring that more children receive timely and life-saving interventions.”
Dr. Chandrasekar R., Group President, noted, “KIMS SATHI is not just a program but a collaborative movement. It highlights the importance of partnerships between healthcare providers, corporates, and NGOs in delivering holistic care.”
The initiative underscores the growing need for integrated healthcare approaches, where clinical excellence is complemented by community-driven support systems. With KIMS SATHI, the hospital aims to create a sustainable model for pediatric cardiac care that ensures timely intervention and improved quality of life for young patients.
