Minister UG Brahma distributes cheques under Prarthana scheme

Kokrajhar: Minister for Handloom and Textile and Guardian Minister of Chirang district Urkhao Gwra Brahma on Saturday ceremonially handed over cheques of one lakh each to 7 next of kins of COVID-19 victims under Prarthana scheme and 10 Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates at a function held in the conference hall of district centre of Kajalgaon. Bijni MLA Ajoy Kumar Ray,  Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Executive Members Ranjit Basumtary, Dhananjay Basumatary, Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) Saikong Basumtary, Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADC) Khanindra Das, Ajit Kumar Sarmah, Nirmali Baruah and other dignatories were present at the distribution ceremony.

Addressing at the event, minister Brahma said that Assam government had recently launched Prathana scheme for extending help and encouragement to the families affected by COVID-19 in a bid to ease their impassable suffering caused by the pandemic. In his speech, he also reiterated their government’s other COVID-19 related schemes like Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Widows Support Scheme and Chief Minister Shishu Seva Schemes for widows and children who lost their husbands and parents respectively due to COVID-19 pandemic.Stating about the distribution of OBC certificates ceremonialy, minister said earlier there were some problems in issuing OBC certificates to the right persons in right time, even there was chances of making duplicate certificates by any one.

“But, with the introduction of new mechanism by the government in the process, it will be quick, hustle free and middlemen free from now onwards, he added.Bijni MLA Ajoy Kumar Ray in his speech expressed hope that the Prarthana scheme would able to provide social and financial security to all the next of kins of COVID-19 deceased people in the district.Deputy Commissioner of Chirang district Narendra Kumar Shah explained the purpose of meeting and Nirmali Baruah, ADC, Chirang, gave vote of thanks.
