Myanmar: PM Modi’s plan to succeed, Myanmar lost again to China

From Bhupen Goswami

Guwahathi: It is a great pleasure for India now that Aung San Suu Kyi’s ‘National League for Democracy’ (NLD) party in Myanmar has won enough seats in parliament to come back to power for the second time. What India had expected for Myanmar has just been fulfilled. India has got the biggest facility to challenge China. Perhaps China has been concerned about it. This information has come out as per the official results released by the Election Commission. The Federal Election Commission announced on television and social media that the NLD has won 346 seats in both houses of Parliament, which is more than the majority figure required to form the government, while the results of several seats have not yet been announced. The main opposition Union Solidarity and Development Party, backed by the army, has won 25 seats and the Shan National League for Democracy, representing the minority community, has won 15 seats.

The Shan community, which lives in east Myanmar, is the largest ethnic minority community in the country. According to an informal calculation by the independent counting service ‘ Ywe Mall ‘, the NLD has got 397 seats, while the opposition USDP has got 28 and other parties 44 seats. Tell us that Myanmar has faced an insurgency of guerrilla forces that have gained various autonomy since independence from Britain in 1948. Now Suu Kyi’s government is trying to carry out peace efforts. However, progress in peace efforts has deteriorated somewhat due to the flare-up of violence in some areas.

India’s foreign ministry, a senior north-east official said, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday on the victory of the National League for Democracy party in the General Elections in Myanmar and said she looked forward to working together to further strengthen the traditional relationship of friendship between the two countries. The Prime Minister of India wrote a letter to Aung San Suu Kyi and said, “Look forward to working together with you to further strengthen the traditional relationship of friendship between the two countries. Mention that Myanmar-China relations have deteriorated after the Myanmar elections. A senior official from the Ministry of External Affairs of India, North East said that in Myanmar, a glimpse of hope for Indian regional policy has been seen today.

The Indian official said Aung San Suu Kyi has stopped the conflict on the border. Even among India’s closest allies on the South Asian sub-continent, China has encroached on in recent years. Bangladesh and Nepal have responded to the border conflict with silence. In Myanmar, 4000 kilometres east of where the battle took place, the last two weeks have given some good news to India. When a large cache of Chinese-made weapons was seized in Thailand. The weapons were destined for some ethnic separatist forces who fought over myanmar’s army. In the past, Myanmar has been hesitant to criticize China in such instances. But now it is not very much dependent on China and Myanmar has taken a little advantage in the relationship. Myanmar’s new government can be hopeful for India. How sensitive is the Government of Myanmar to the allegations of human rights violations against Aung San Suu Kyi’s government on the Rohingya crisis issue and whether a permanent solution to the Rohingya problem will now find Myanmar’s leadership in collaboration with other countries including Bangladesh and India.

He also said that the new government in Myanmar is also seen to be linked to the security and development of the north eastern states of India. Right now, Prime Minister Modi has expected that it has become easier to curb China through Myanmar’s new government. Because the party that China has taken note of and helped in the election has just lost. India is very happy with the relationship between Myanmar and China not being corrected. Politically ahead of the election, last month, on the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Major General and Foreign Secretary of the Indian Army visited Myanmar. The visit to Myanmar was very special in view of the new dimension of India-Myanmar relations and the possible threat from China by Army Chief General M.M. The assistance of the Government of Myanmar is necessary to eliminate India’s north-eastern insurgent outfits seeking assistance from China. That is why Prime Minister Modi is keen to maintain good relations with Myanmar.

Modi has planned to eliminate all anti-India insurgents seeking assistance from China, so that China does not help these organizations. Union Home Ministry official and North East Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh can visit Myanmar in the coming new year. Sources said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar. In this visit, all important issues including traffic system, border issues between the two countries will be discussed so that China does not interfere in the matter within Myanmar.
