The National Action for Mechanised Sanitation Ecosystem Scheme has marked a significant milestone in advancing dignity, safety and sustainable livelihoods for sanitation workers across the country.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said that under the scheme, a total of more than 90 thousand sewer and septic tank workers have been profiled, out of which 89,248 have been validated. It also said that under the scheme, 87,037 workers have been provided with PPE kits, while more than 76 thousand workers have been covered under various health insurance schemes.
The Ministry highlighted that to further strengthen safety infrastructure, seven hundred 53 safety devices have been dispatched to Emergency Response Sanitation Units, established in larger municipal corporations and districts. Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar has said that the scheme reflects the government’s strong commitment to ensuring dignity, safety and economic empowerment for sanitation workers.
