Navratri Travel Rush Highlights Growing Importance Of Motor Insurance Preparedness

Bengaluru : As Navratri celebrations drive increased road travel across India, IndusInd General Insurance is encouraging motorists to review their insurance coverage and vehicle readiness before embarking on festive journeys. With higher traffic volumes during the season due to family visits, celebrations and short getaways, ensuring adequate motor insurance protection can help safeguard against unforeseen incidents during festive travel.

The importance of motor insurance preparedness is growing alongside India’s expanding mobility ecosystem. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH)’s Parivahan Analytics Platform, India has over 24.9 crore active registered vehicles. The widespread adoption of digital tolling infrastructure is reflected in approximately 5.9 crore active FASTags, while more than 98% of National Highway toll collections are now conducted electronically. These trends highlight the growing scale of road travel and increasing mobility across the country.

Road travel activity has continued to witness strong growth in recent years. According to MoRTH data, toll collections on National Highways increased from ₹55,882 crore in FY2023-24 to ₹61,408 crore in FY2024-25, reflecting continued growth in vehicular movement and road usage. As more consumers take to the roads during festive periods, the need for responsible driving and adequate insurance protection becomes increasingly important.

As mobility needs evolve, consumers are increasingly reviewing their insurance requirements to ensure that coverage remains aligned with their driving habits and travel patterns. Understanding available coverage options and assistance services can help vehicle owners make informed decisions based on their individual needs.

Before undertaking festive journeys, motorists are encouraged to review their policy coverage, verify policy validity, keep essential documents readily accessible and familiarise themselves with key policy terms and exclusions. In addition, vehicle owners should carry out basic safety checks, including the condition of tyres, brakes, battery health and essential fluid levels before setting off.

Festive Travel Readiness Checklist

Before heading out this Navratri, motorists should:

•           Verify motor insurance policy validity and renewal dates
