The government has said that the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system in the CBSE Class 12th examinations has enhanced transparency and objectivity in the evaluation process. Addressing concerns over the Class 12 results declared by the CBSE, in New Delhi today, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Sanjay Kumar said that some concerns have been raised by the students regarding marking and a slight decline in pass percentage. He said that the welfare of students is of utmost importance and no child should feel they have received less marks than they deserve.
The Secretary explained that CBSE has implemented this year, which ensures greater transparency and objectivity in evaluation. He noted that OSM is not a new system and was first introduced in 2014, and it is widely used by several universities and international boards. He said that nearly 98 lakh answer sheets were scanned and evaluated digitally with multiple layers of security and quality checks. Mr Kumar said that earlier, answer sheets were checked within specific regional offices, but the new system of OSM allows evaluation beyond geographical boundaries.
The secretary added that the digital system minimises errors in totalling and ensures uniform marking. He also highlighted that the system enables quicker access to answer sheets for students. On the issue of re-evaluation, he said CBSE has provided relief to the students who want to go for re- evaluation by reducing the overall fee, with 100 rupees for accessing answer sheets, 100 rupees for verification, and 25 rupees per question for re-evaluation. He noted that the fee will be refunded if marks increase after re-evaluation. The re-evaluation process will commence on the 19th of this month. Mr Kumar urged students and parents not to worry and to make use of the available mechanisms, assuring that all concerns will be addressed with fairness and sensitivity.
