Over 6,40,000 sites adopted for Shramdaan from urban & rural India for mega cleanliness drive

New Delhi: Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, over 6 lakh 40 thousand sites have been adopted for shramdaan from urban and rural India for the mega cleanliness drive. While interacting with media on Swachhata Hi Seva in New Delhi today, Mr. Puri said a large number of Resident Welfare Associations have come forward to volunteer for Shramdaan in nearly one lakh residential areas. He added that village communities have come forward to adopt around 35 thousand Anganwadi centres all over the nation. He said, in a first of its kind initiative, Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel will join hands with civilians for a mega cleanliness drive.

Mr. Puri said, the Prime Minister’s call for Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath could be world’s largest voluntary effort for a cleaner India. Recently, in his Mann Ki Baat programme, Mr. Modi had appealed the citizens to dedicate one hour of Shramdaan for swachhata at 10 AM on 1st October.
