Parvati Prasad Baruah award to Professor Idris Ali has made Darrang jubilant

Mangaldai :Professor Idris Ali , a veteran  writer , lyricist , poet ,  literary pensioner and a retired college teacher  will be conferred  the prestigious award  in the name of  Geetkobi Paravati Prasad Baruah award for the year 2018 . The award has been declared by the Directorate of  Cultural Affairs , Govt of Assam and it will be ceremonially delivered to Ali in a function organized in Sankardev Kalakhsetra auditorium on Tuesday evening . The award introduced for the first time carries a citation and a cash prize of rupees two lakh among others . This was informed by Idris Ali to this reporter during an interaction at his Sahitya Nagar residence in Mangaldai town on Monday . Professor  Ali who has already received the ‘Kolongpar Award” in 2013 was born to the family of M. Ebrahim Ali and Poriban Nessa of Singimari , Sipajhar in 1941. He was approved as the lyricist by the Akashvani Guwahati in 1965.

The former vice president of Asom Sahitya Sabha  and  Asom Kobi Samaj respectively and the former president of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha has a no of literary creations including his books on  collection of lyrics namely “ Niribili” and “Surmita” , poem collection “ Xukhar , Dukhar aru Premar” and MHRD award winning novel “ Aag Sotalor Mon” among others . Expressing his reaction before this reporter Professor Ali termed the award as a great honor to him as it has helped him to remain associated with the musical icon of the State Parvati Prasad Baruah whom he considered as one of the three priests of modern Assamese music after Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla and Bishnu Prasad Rabha . “ I am very delighted that through this award my name will remain associated with Parvati Prasad Baruah who I regard as one of the three ‘Purohits’ of the modern Assamses music along with Jyoti and Bishnu.”, he shared. The news has brought delight to the well wishers of Ali from all across the State . “ I have received phone calls from large no of persons across Assam which included prominent musicians, singers , litterateurs , literary organizers etc including Anisur Zaman , Anupam Choudhury , Jugabrata Dutta , Kula Baruah , Prabhat Choudhury , Dr Ram Chandra Deka among others.” , He added. Meanwhile Mukut Hazarika  , Secretary of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha along with the other office bearers of the literary body and the  members of several local public organizations including  Mangaldai Media Circle , Youth Club , Crystal Vision , Chapai Yuva Kalyan Kendra etc have welcome the decision of the State Government of conferring the prestigious award and congratulated professor Ali in the occasion .
