GUWAHATI : Police have filed a chargesheet against a journalist who tried to commit hooliganism on government employees as journalists.In an embarrassing development for the sincere and honest journalists of the state of Assam, police have framed a charge sheet against a senior reporter as well as an office bearer of a premiere state level journalists’ body for allegedly manhandling a public servant on duty in Assam’s Darrang district . As per the documents available the police of the district headquarters police station Mangaldai submitted a charge sheet against Mukut Raj Sarmah @ Mukut Sarmah ,a resident of Prafulla Nagar area of Mangaldai in connection with the Mangaldai PS case no. 247 / 2022 U/S 448 / 353 /325 /506 and 34 IPC . The case was registered on charges of physical assault of an elderly staff of district library , Mangaldai , Mukunda Sarmah while on duty . The accused a local reporter of a news channel owned by the family member of a very powerful politician of the state and an office bearer of a local scribes’ body , office of which is located just opposite to the library allegedly entered into the library along with two of his accomplices on June 1, 2022 before assaulting the public servant and threatening him with un-parliamentary words. On the day the scribes’ body represented by the accused reporter in association with a premier literary body of the state was organizing a function at the library auditorium and the incident occurred after the victim staff who is on the verge of retirement in the month of December , 2022 just reminded Jadav Sarmah, the Secretary of the co-host literary body about the official rules of submitting a written application by the organizers willing to use the library campus . Immediately after the incident the victim public servant submitted a prayer petition before the Mangaldai Zila Karmachari Parishad , the Deputy Commissioner , the State Director of Libraries and finally before the Chief Minister , Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 21 last seeking justice . As stated by the complainant Mukunda Sarmah , the matter was also brought to the notice of the authorities of the concerned news channel and the state level body of the working journalists in which the accused has been holding an important post of office bearer.
