Mangaldai : Commemorating the functioning of the press council of India ,the National Press Day has been celebrated in Darrang district on Monday along with the rest of the state. In the centrally organized function by Darrang district administration at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall, renowned journalist and Commissioner of Assam Information Commissioner Samudra Gupta Kashyap as the chief guest delivered his speech on COVID 19 and news media .
In his well prepared deliberations chief guest Kashyap threw light on different aspects of journalism , its role and responsibilities , hazards, challenges faced in the profession particularly during COVID induced situation. Differences between true, factual news coverage, information, disinformation, fake news, infodemic etc. ‘Journalism is the only profession which is governed by as many as fifty seven separate acts .’ , Kashyap said.
The session which began with the welcome speech by Deputy Commissioner Dilip Kumar Borah was also addressed by Mangaldai Legislator Gurujyoti Das, Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan, veteran journalists Dr Nagendra Nath Sharma and Prashanta Baruah among others. Earlier Manimala Gogoi, District Information and Public Relation Officer explained that objectives of the event. The event was attended by many leading citizens of Mangaldai , senior officials of the district administration besides media persons of the district.
