Rosatom Begins Accepting Applications for Its International Grant Competition Driving Environmental and Social Innovation

Mumbai: Rosatom has launched the application period for its international grant competition supporting environmental and community‑focused initiatives. The competition aims to advance volunteer engagement and environmental awareness, identify and support youth‑driven initiatives, improve the quality of life for local communities and vulnerable groups, and promote new tools for developing social projects.

Applications are accepted across ten thematic areas, including: engaging children, students, and young people in community‑focused and environmental initiatives and educational programs; supporting vulnerable groups and NGOs through volunteer involvement; environmental protection and the promotion of environmental awareness; strengthening volunteer networks and urban communities; animal welfare, sports, and healthy lifestyles; digital solutions for social and volunteer initiatives; urban development and public‑space improvement; and cultural projects aimed at heritage preservation and creative development. Projects may be entirely new initiatives or distinct phases of ongoing programs. In 2026, the competition in these categories is open to organizations from seven countries: Bangladesh, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan.

This year’s competition introduced a new special category, “Arctic: Innovation and Sustainable Development,” which is open to participants from all countries and has no geographic restrictions. The category is designed to support projects that promote knowledge about the Arctic and highlight its importance for the sustainable development of the global economy and logistics, advancement of science, and international cooperation. Particular emphasis is placed on educational, outreach, popular‑science, and youth‑driven initiatives that foster responsible attitudes toward the Arctic and broaden public understanding of its role in today’s world. Eligible applicants for the special category include NGOs and educational institutions, universities and other higher‑education providers, youth organizations and associations, science outreach centers, museums, and environmental education groups.

Applications will be accepted through November 1, 2026. Projects will be evaluated in two stages against criteria including relevance and scale, thoroughness and feasibility, economic efficiency, a systemic approach, and long‑term impact. Experts may hold an online review for selected projects, asking additional questions and offering recommendations to strengthen the application. The top projects emerging from the competitive selection process will receive grant funding. During project implementation, winners may also receive advisory and organizational support from invited experts.
