The Sensex and the Nifty today gained more than one percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices rose amid positive global cues. The Sensex was trading above the 55,500 Mark while the Nifty was trading above 16,500 level.
The Sensex climbed 766 points or 1.4 percent to trade at 55,534 while the Nifty surged 220 points or 1.34 percent to trade at 16,560.
