Sensex rises 515 points, Nifty gains 124 points

The Sensex  on Thursday  climbed more than 500 points. The key domestic stocks gained amid positive cues from global share markets. The Sensex closed above 59,300 level and the Nifty ended above 17,650 points.

The Sensex rose 515 points, or 0.88 percent, to finish at 59,333. The Nifty gained 124, or 0.71 percent, points to closed at 17,659.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap gained 0.83 percent while the Small-Cap index ended 0.52 percent up.

In the Sensex pack, 20 companies posted gains while 10 logged losses. Axis Bank was the top gainer as it climbed 2.8 percent followed by Bajaj Finance which gained 2.4 percent. HDFC added 2.3 percent and Tech Mahindra rose 2.1 percent.

On the other hand, ITC tumbled 1.6 percent, NTPC declined 1.4 percent and Hindustan Uniliver fell one percent.

In sectoral indicies at BSE, 14 sectors gained while five logged losses. Bankex and IT, both sectors gained 1.6  percent each. Finance index climbed 1.5 percent. On the other side, FMCG secotr index declined upto 0.7 percent.

The overall breadth of the BSE trade was positive as shares of 1,792 companies gained, while 1,596 fell. Shares of 147 companies remained unchanged.
