Smart Puts Realtors At The Heart Of Mumbai’s Redevelopment Story

Mumbai : As redevelopment emerges as one of the most significant forces shaping Mumbai’s real estate market, the South MetroCity Association of Realtors (SMART) brought together some of the industry’s most respected voices for UPGRADING, A Redevelopment Workshop, a knowledge led initiative designed to help realtors understand, navigate and lead this evolving opportunity.

Held at the Taj President, Cuffe Parade, the workshop brought under one roof developers, legal experts, architects, consultants, industry bodies and real estate professionals for a day of learning, dialogue and collaboration. The event was graced by Dr. Niranjan Hiranandani, Chairman Emeritus, NAREDCO, as the Guest of Honour, whose opening remarks set the tone for a day focused on the opportunities and complexities shaping Mumbai’s redevelopment landscape.

The workshop reflected SMART’s larger vision for 2026–2028, built around education, empowerment, professionalism, inclusiveness and advocacy. As redevelopment gains momentum across Mumbai, SMART believes the brokerage community must be equipped with the knowledge, skills and credibility required to participate meaningfully in this transformation.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Jatin Shah, President, SMART and Ambassador, NAR India, said:

“Mumbai’s next growth story will be written through redevelopment. The opportunity is enormous, but so are the complexities. Realtors can no longer afford to enter this space without the right knowledge and expertise. Through UPGRADING, our objective is to help professionals understand the ecosystem better, strengthen their capabilities and position themselves as trusted advisors in this transformation.”

He further added:

“The next two years are not just about transactions. They are about raising professional standards, strengthening credibility and ensuring that SMART membership is recognised as the benchmark of real estate excellence in Mumbai.”

The workshop featured a comprehensive line-up of sessions covering redevelopment legal frameworks, cooperative housing society regulations, DCPR 2034, dispute resolution mechanisms, AI-aided feasibility studies, commercial redevelopment opportunities and practical redevelopment strategies. Industry leaders from Knight Frank India, K Raheja Corp, Sumit Group,  Suraj Estate Developers, Narang Realty, Build Capital and leading legal and architectural firms shared insights drawn from real-world redevelopment projects and market experience.

A recurring theme throughout the day was the need for greater collaboration across the real estate ecosystem. As redevelopment projects become larger, more complex and increasingly valuable, successful outcomes depend on the collective efforts of developers, consultants, legal experts and real estate professionals working towards a common goal.

Speaking about the vision behind the initiative, Mr. Pradip Shetty, Convenor, UPGRADING, said:

“We are at a stage where competition alone is not enough. This is the time to complement and collaborate. UPGRADING was curated to bring different stakeholders of the real estate fraternity under one roof with a shared purpose. When knowledge, experience and expertise come together, the entire industry moves forward.”

Beyond knowledge sharing, the workshop reinforced SMART’s commitment to strengthening ethical standards, encouraging professional development and creating a more future-ready brokerage community. It also underscored the association’s focus on ensuring that realtors remain informed participants in one of the most important opportunities shaping Mumbai’s urban future.

As redevelopment accelerates across the city, SMART remains committed to building a stronger, more informed and more respected real estate fraternity. With UPGRADING, the association has taken a decisive step towards ensuring that realtors are not merely part of Mumbai’s redevelopment story, but among those leading it.
