BANGALORE — Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology (SRIT), in collaboration with MathWorks, today announced a credit course that will introduce 450 first-year engineering students to systems thinking and Model-Based Design using MATLAB® and Simulink®. Students will also have opportunities to build on this foundation through advanced courses in higher semesters.
The initiative is part of SRIT’s continuing effort to bring industry-relevant subjects and learning approaches into its engineering curriculum. Introducing a system-level perspective in the first year will help students understand how different engineering disciplines and components come together in the design of complete systems.
“Introducing systems thinking in the first year will help students connect concepts across engineering disciplines and understand how complete systems behave. The course provides an early foundation that students can build on through advanced learning and multidisciplinary projects. It is an important part of SRIT’s journey to make engineering education more industry-relevant,” said Dr. J. David Rathnaraj, Principal, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology.
SRIT academicians and MathWorks experts jointly developed the course, which will be delivered by the MathWorks Training Team. Through a consistent, hands-on, and application-oriented learning experience, students will create system models, explore design choices, and examine how changes in individual components affect overall performance.
“As engineered systems increasingly integrate software, electronics, controls, and physical components, introducing systems thinking early helps students understand how decisions across disciplines shape overall performance,” said Chandan Pramanik, Director, Education, MathWorks India. “By introducing this perspective early and providing a pathway to advanced learning, SRIT is helping students develop capabilities they can apply to multidisciplinary engineering challenges that we see in industries.”
