Mangaldai:“Road Safety- Life Safety”- with this theme the 30th edition of Road Safety Week celebration has been launched in Darrang district on Monday with a sleuth of public functions throughout the week . In this connection an awareness rally of light motor vehicles and motor bykes displaying various awareness banners, placards etc 
Earlier in the inaugural meeting invited guests including Gurujyoti Das , District Development Commissioner Sweety Gogoi Kalita , Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty , Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Satyajit Nath , District Elementary Education Officer Dr Jowaheera Tabassom and Social Entrepreneur Mayukh Goswami spoke on the need of coordinated efforts at all levels starting from school level to reduce the casualties of road accidents which has been recorded as over four hundred on an average per day in our country . The speakers also discussed about various measures to tackle this problem which has turned out to be a menace for the modern civilized world .
They also underlined the necessity of mass public awareness regarding government beneficiary schemes including the ‘Solacium’ scheme and declaration of the nearby areas of educational institutions and hospitals along the NH as the “No Horn Zone” of in case of victims of hit and run cases. Prior to this District Transport Officer , Darrang Dipanjali Bora explained its objectives . The organizers also distributed awareness chest belts for the employees of the stake holder government agencies like traffic police , Municipality and NH workers among others .
Meanwhile talking to this correspondent Sahabuddin Tapadar , Enforcement Inspector and Padma Lochan Hazarika , Motor Vehicle Inspector informed that the weeklong celebration will feature several other programmes including health and eye screening of drivers at different public bus stand , poster and slogan writing contest in the educational institutions , cleanliness drive on the foot paths besides drives against the intoxicated drivers and violation of various provisions of the traffic rules among others .
