Transdisciplinary education essential to survive in changing job markets: Dr. Vijayan Karippal

Thiruvananthapuram: With Artificial Intelligence and rapid technological revolutions reshaping the global job market, students can no longer secure their future through conventional education methods alone, said Dr. Vijayan Karippal, Registrar and Chief Operating Officer of World Peace University (WPU GOA), at a press conference. He elaborated on the changing landscape of higher education in Kerala and its implications for student’s futures.

Sharing his perspective on Kerala’s education system, Dr. Karippal said, “The current trend among students and parents in Kerala is to focus solely on securing a ‘first job’ after studies. But in today’s world where technology is changing rapidly, it is not possible to remain confined to a single job. Universities need to move away from preparing students only for that first job. Instead, World Peace University is equipping them to confidently face multiple career transitions and new opportunities that will arise throughout their lives.”

He pointed out that as industries evolve faster than traditional academic courses, today’s competition is no longer between those specializing in a single subject. It is now between those with a transdisciplinary approach who can integrate knowledge across multiple fields. Along with technical skills, developing the ability to keep learning and adapt to new situations is essential for student’s futures.

WPU GOA is one of the first universities in the world to integrate high-quality professional education with the principles of peace studies and it has also received UNESCO’s honor for peace studies. With 40 years of strong academic legacy in higher education, the institution has over 1,00,000 alumni worldwide. The university aims to shape students into global citizens with mutual respect and a sense of responsibility.

Keeping future employment opportunities in mind, WPU Goa currently offers courses in Computer Science and Engineering, Bachelor of Management Studies, Integrated Product Design, Communication Design, and Psychology.

Dr. Saket Yeolekar, Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department, also participated in the press conference alongside Dr. Vijayan Karippal.
