Two Iconic Horror Films, One Spine-Chilling Halloween Experience

PVR INOX Limited, the largest and most premium cinema exhibitor in India, brings two unforgettable cinematic experiences that redefined fear in their own distinctive ways. Roman Polanski’s psychological horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, the 4K master is Paramount’s 55th anniversary restoration and John Krasinski’s edge-of-your-seat thriller A Quiet Place return to the big screen on October 30, as part of the PVR INOX Halloween Film Festival. Bringing together two generations of horror cinema, the festival offers audiences an opportunity to experience the tension, atmosphere and immersive storytelling of these acclaimed films in the theatrical setting they deserve. Whether it is the unsettling psychological dread of Rosemary’s Baby or the nerve-racking silences of A Quiet Place, both films demonstrate how the most powerful horror often lies in what we fear, what we imagine and what we cannot escape.

Released in 1968, Rosemary’s Baby, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Mia Farrow, is widely regarded as one of the most influential psychological horror films ever made. The film follows Rosemary Woodhouse, a young woman who begins to suspect that something sinister surrounds her pregnancy and the seemingly benevolent people in her life. With its slow-building tension, deeply unsettling atmosphere and exploration of paranoia, the film established a benchmark for psychological horror that continues to resonate with audiences decades later. In contrast, John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place (2018) offers a contemporary take on survival horror, set in a world where mysterious creatures hunt by sound. Starring Emily Blunt and Krasinski, the film follows a family forced to live in near-total silence to survive. Its inventive use of sound and silence, combined with its emotional core and sustained suspense, transformed an ordinary family’s struggle for survival into an intensely immersive cinematic experience.

Speaking about the re-release, Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist, PVR INOX Ltd., said, “India has always had a deep fascination with horror as a genre. We have grown up listening to fantastical tales, folklore, and stories of the supernatural, making the unknown and the unexplained an intrinsic part of our cultural imagination. Bringing back two exceptional films that have defined fear on the big screen in very different ways to PVR INOX is therefore extremely exciting. Audiences love these films; while Rosemary’s Baby draws you into a world of psychological unease and creeping paranoia, A Quiet Place keeps you on the edge of your seat with its ingenious use of silence and suspense. Through our Halloween curation, we want audiences to rediscover the thrill of these iconic films in our theaters. Their magic is timeless.”

The return of these two films reflects the enduring appeal of horror cinema and the unique thrill of experiencing it collectively on the big screen.  Through its Halloween Film Festival, PVR INOX continues to bring memorable cinematic experiences back to theatres, inviting audiences to rediscover classics and work of some of our greats.
