Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in West Bengal for a significant visit focused on border security, governance, and development initiatives. He is scheduled to visit the BSF’s 18th Battalion Border Outpost at Jumagach near the India-Bangladesh border, where he will interact with BSF personnel, address a ‘Prahari Sammelan’, participate in a plantation drive, and inaugurate or lay the foundation stone for several BSF-related infrastructure and welfare projects.
Shah reached Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri last night, marking the start of his three-day visit to the state. He was received by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari upon arrival.
Later today, the Home Minister will chair a high-level meeting in Siliguri to review border management and security issues along the India-Bangladesh frontier. He is also expected to assess the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state and hold discussions on streamlining birth and death registration processes. In the evening, he is slated to proceed to Kolkata.
A key highlight of the day includes the foundation stone laying ceremony for Amul Bengal Dairy’s new curd manufacturing plant in Sankrail, Howrah. This project is expected to boost the dairy sector and create employment opportunities in the region.
On Sunday, Shah will chair a meeting focused on the overall law and order situation in West Bengal. He is also scheduled to inaugurate the newly constructed Word Museum at the National Library in Kolkata.
This visit underscores the Centre’s continued emphasis on strengthening border security, improving inter-agency coordination, and advancing key developmental projects in the state under the BJP-led government. Updates on the visit will be monitored for any real-time developments.
