YAC wants Guinness World Records for “Largest bribe received by an individual government employee (single attempt)”

Hyderabad: On the 74 th Independence day, Smt. Santoshi was appointed as a deputy collector. Her husband Colonel Santosh Babu sacrificed his life in the Galwan valley clash. No one is sure of access to newspapers in the heaven, but the hero’s soul would have pained to notice a news report the same day about a MRO taking a bribe of Rs 1.10 crore in a single stroke. No soldier in the country would want to die fighting for a society which is so corrupt and complacent.

Corruption is the major violator of human rights and eats away all the benefits supposed to reach poor from governments. In India, particularly in some states, people have become complacent and officials are exploiting them in blatant violation of conduct rules.

A particular officer, Balaraj Nagaraju, Tehsildar of Keesara in Telangana, demanded over 20 million Rupees for a single work and actually received 11 million Rupees from a citizen. People just read and forget the news in Telangana. There is a need to build the culture of zero tolerance against corruption. Otherwise, poverty cannot be eradicated from India, as corruption and poverty from a vicious cycle for common people.

The bribe was demanded to settle a dispute pertaining to 19.39 acres of agricultural land on the

Hyderabad’s outskirts. A team of ACB officials led by Hyderabad zonal deputy director Ramana

Kumar and Ranga Reddy-Medchal-Malkajgiri deputy superintendent of police Suryanarayana raided the house of accused and seized the cash on 14 Aug.2020.

“This is the largest amount of cash ever seized by the ACB from any official in the state so far. It took more than five hours to count the cash that he had received as a bribe,” an ACB official said.

Guinness replied that “If you can’t find the record that you want to attempt, then you can suggest a new record title by choosing ‘Apply for a new record title’ an administration fee applies to applications for new record titles.” It takes up to 12 weeks for applications to be reviewed by Guinness.
