Assam Karmachari Parishad Agitates Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill,Martyr’s Families To Return Assam Govt. Honour

Guwahati :   The Sadou Assam Karmachari Parishad staged statewide protest on Wednesday to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. Under the aegis of Parishad leadership, Anti-CAB protesters of the organisation have staged massive protest across the state. Parishad criticized the BJP government for taking attempt to grant citizenship to all Hindu minority refugees. Parishad also said that the steps taken by the Modi government would paralyze the indigenous people of Assam socially, economically and educatiolly. “The Karmachari Parishad will never allow Assam to bear the burden of minority refugees. If the citizenship bill, 2016 becomes law Assam will become like Tripura,” said Parishad leader. The activists of Karmachari Parishad raised various slogans against the Central Government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam Government. Meanwhile In protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the families of the martyrs of Assam Movement have decided to return the honour conferred on them by the government of Assam. The All Assam Jatiya Swahid Pariyal Samannayrakhi Parishad, has decided to return the mementos in protest against CAB. The organisation has decided to return the honour to Assam government through the DCs of their respective districts. In Guwahati, the families of the martyrs on Wednesday marched from Swahid Nyash at Latasil to DC office to return the honour. They said, “The sacrifices made by the martyrs will become meaningless if the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is passed.” Notably, the Assam government had on December 10, 2016, conferred honour on the families of the martyrs of Assam agitation.
