Guwahathi: During COVID 19 pandemic and flood, the humane phase of police was adequately reflected. Observed that Assam Police have achieved remarkable success in dealing with the crimes. They have also attained success in various inquiry associated with crimes against women and thereby lent dignity to the women. Similarly, in dealing with rhino poaching, drug smuggling etc. the people have witnessed laudable successes, Said Sarbananda Sonowal the Chief Minister of Assam on today.Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated two police stations of Lohowal and Duliajan built under Mission for Overall Improvement Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) and dedicated them for the service of the people. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that after assuming power in the year 2016, his government has dedicated itself for the socio-economic development of the people of the state and has been working on 24X7 basis to empower the people.
Referring to abysmal condition of police stations during the previous government in the state, Sonowal said that though police personnel have dedicated themselves for the safety and security of the lives and properties of the state, the previous government did not do anything for lifting the morale of the policemen and facelifting the images of the police stations. Without any infrastructural support, the policemen had to work. The condition of barracks were also very deplorable. However, reverting the earlier condition, the present State government moved by the mantra of Narendra Modi’s Smart Police envisaged MOITRI scheme and made budgetary provision in the first budget of the government. In the first phase steps were taken for infrastructural development of 73 police stations. Moreover, steps were also taken for the construction of 100 barracks.
Sonowal said that in the wake of development of science and technology, the commission of crimes have also undergone a sea change. However, the state police taking the help of science and technology have achieved tremendous successes in deal with crimes and their manifestations. Chief Minister Sonowal also said that with the help of MOITRI scheme, effort has been made to transform police into friends of people. He said that during COVID 19 pandemic and flood, the humane phase of police was adequately reflected. He also observed that Assam Police have achieved remarkable success in dealing with the crimes. They have also attained success in various inquiry associated with crimes against women and thereby lent dignity to the women. Similarly, in dealing with rhino poaching, drug smuggling etc. the people have witnessed laudable successes. He also said that in sync with State government’s principle of ‘zero tolerance’, Assam Police have been working diligently to wipe out corruption. He also hoped that the new police stations of Lohowal and Duliajan upgraded under MOITRI scheme would lift the morale of the people personnel who are involved in securing the lives and properties of the people of these two areas. Referring to immense importance that Narendra Modi led government attached to Assam and other North Eastern states, Sonowal said that because of the love and importance of the Centre the international standards institutions have been set up in Assam along with upgradation of Numaligarh and Bongaigaon Refineries and Multi modal logistic hub built in Jogighopa under Bharat mala project.
Similarly, State government has been working relentlessly to make Assam free from corruption, terrorism, illegal migration and pollution. MLA Rituporna Baruah while speaking on the occasion, thanked Chief Minister Sonowal for selecting Lahowal Police Station under the MOITRI scheme. It may be noted that established in 1975 the Lahowal Police Station has been built under MOITRI scheme with a financial outlay of Rs. 1.60 crore. Similarly, the Dulaian Police Statation built in 1980 has been upgraded under the scheme with budgetary assistance of Rs. 2.5 crore.
