Assam to witness CAA Protest with renewed vigor

From Trishna Pegu Doley

GUWAHATI : Political parties and organisations in Assam called for a united fight against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act on Sunday. The move reflects the bjp-led government’s objective of pressurizing the new law to be repealed before next year’s assembly elections. The Coordination Committee against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will issue a public appeal for the Unite fight on December 12. In fact, December 12 is the first anniversary of the enactment of the CAA. The day will be celebrated as the Organization Resolution Day (Pledge Day). Most of the CAA in Assam are opposed as it grants Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan to India by 2014.

They see it as a threat to the identity and culture of Assam and this has led to continuous protests. We have decided to celebrate the first anti-CAA anniversary on December 12, “said Caa chief coordinator Deben Tamuli. We will not only renew our pledge to continue our fight against the unconstitutional law, but also appeal to all anti-CA forces to fight the united fight. The highlight of the movement will be the hospitality of the six individuals who were killed in a crackdown against anti-CAA protesters last year. He said, “We will invite and honour the families of the victims so that people do not forget their sacrifices.
