Blot on Khaki; DGP level officer assaults wife, video goes viral

Bhopal:  A Senior IPS officer of 1986 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre is in the news for wrong reasons. A Video of DGP level law enforcement officer, Purushottam Sharma, went viral on Sunday.

Taking immediate action on the alleged crime state government removed Sharma from the post of special DG.  The senior police officer’s behavior, was unbecoming of a civil servant officer and in complete violation of existing Service Rules.

Despite the fact that the act of senior police officer was a clear violation of All India Service (conduct) Rules 1968, the Madhya Pradesh Government is still waiting for a formal complaint from the accused Officer’s  wife. Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that the government is aware about the incident and the government would take any action when a formal complaint will be made.

Sources in the government claimed that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was serious about the issue and “ is taking stock of all developments related with the issue”. He could consider even removing him from Service. “Everyone is equal before law. Strict action would be taken against those who violate irrespective of their stature or position.”  The Chief Minister has said.  Name of officer also figured in controversial ‘honey trap’ issue last year in Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, the State Commission for Women has suo motto took cognisance of the high profile matter. Chairperson of the Commission, Shobha Oza told PNI that the Commission would take the issue to the logical conclusion. Sources claimed that the Commission has issued a notice to the IPS officer. The acts of Sharma, IPS, prima facie amount to official misconduct and violation of All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968, sources added.

In a statement issued today, the officer in question said that it was his personal matter and he didn’t do anything unlawful. “I am trying to save my family,”  he added. Sharma has been stripped off from his present post of Special  DG,  Public Prosecution.
