As part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Canara Bank, Madurai Circle office presented Canara Vidya Jyothi Scholarships to meritorious girl students at Madurai, The scholarship were distributed in the presence of the District Collector, Mr. Nishanth Krishna and the General Manager of Canara bank, Madurai circle office on 14 Aug 2026 at Madurai.
The function was presided over by Ms. A.K. Bhooma, General Manager, Canara Bank, Madurai Circle. In her address, she said that the Canara Vidya Jyothi Scholarship scheme is implemented through the bank’s rural, semi-urban, and urban branches. Under the scheme, one meritorious girl student from Classes 5 to 10 belonging to the SC/ST communities is selected for assistance.
The District Collector distributed scholarship cheques to more than 200 students from 47 government schools under the Madurai regional office, totaling Rs 8.64 lakh.
During FY 2026-27, Canara bank, Madurai Circle, disbursed Canara vidya Jyothi scholarships to 2724 girl students through 454 branches amounting Rs.1.08 crore.
The scholarship provides financial assistance of Rs 3,000 per student per year for students studying in Classes 5 to 7 and Rs 5,000 per student per year for students studying in Classes 8 to 10.
Canara Bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education and empowering girl children, particularly those from rural and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, through initiatives such as the Canara Vidya Jyothi Scholarship.
