Foreseeing a Soulful Nation: Sai Sharanagat’s Quest for Spiritual Awakening Through the International Spirituality Olympiad (ISO)

By Suresh Unnithan

In an era marked by rapid cultural erosion, where materialism eclipses deeper human values, the fabric of family relations frays, and societal evils like sexual abuse, drug addiction, and corruption proliferate unchecked, a clarion call for renewal echoes from the heart of India, that is Bharat. This call emanates from  Sai Sharanagat—affectionately addressed as Shri Bhai Ji—a visionary grihasth sant (non-renunciate monk) who has dedicated his life to combating these challenges through the transformative power of spiritual education. By relinquishing a lucrative two-decade career in multinational corporations, Sai Sharanagat has channeled his energy into founding the International Spirituality Olympiad (ISO) Council, a beacon of hope aimed at instilling timeless values in the young, fostering self-realization, and weaving a tapestry of global brotherhood for a peaceful world.

From Corporate Heights to Spiritual Depths: The Journey of  Sai Sharanagat

Born in the sacred city of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Sai Sharanagat revealed a profound spiritual inclination from early childhood, nurtured by an upbringing steeped in India’s rich cultural ethos. An engineering graduate from the University of Allahabad, he ascended the corporate ladder, contributing his expertise to leading multinational companies for nearly 20 years. Yet, amid professional success, a deeper calling stirred within him—a divine urge to address the spiritual void afflicting modern society.

As a multifaceted figure—spiritual preacher, motivational speaker, editor, seeker, and proactive leader—Sai Sharanagat embodies the essence of a grihasth sant, blending worldly wisdom with ethereal insight. His “sane and well-developed” thoughts, as admirers often describe them, stem from relentless self-inquiry and engagement with luminaries across domains: from spiritual thinkers and academicians to politicians and entrepreneurs. In March 2021, he formally established the ISO Council, a registered public charitable trust, marking his full-time commitment to socio-spiritual reform. This bold step was not merely a career pivot but a sacred pledge to redefine human potential, one enlightened soul at a time.

The ISO Council: A Vanguard for Cultural and Spiritual Renaissance

At the helm of the ISO Council as Founder and President, Sai Sharanagat leads a distinguished cadre of trustees, patrons, mentors including several known faces from the fraternity of education, academics, culture such as heads of NCERT, CBSE, NTA, NCTE, UPPSC, BPSC, UPTU, MNNIT, AIU, NMI, IGNCA, IYA , Chancellors, VCs of renowned Universities, KFI Trustees, Secretary Higher Education- GoI. Registered as a socio-spiritual and cultural organization, the Council operates as a “maha-prakalp” (grand project) with the audacious goal of connecting over one billion people—approximately 100 crore—with India’s timeless cultural and spiritual consciousness.

The Council’s flagship initiative, the International Spirituality Olympiad (ISO), is a groundbreaking global platform designed exclusively for students from Class 1 to PhD levels. Conceived as the world’s first Olympiad of its kind, ISO transcends traditional academics by immersing participants in the profound wellsprings of Indian philosophy, sacraments, traditions, and ideology. Through competitive yet collaborative exercises—such as quizzes, essays, and creative presentations on themes like self-realization and ethical living—ISO sows the “basic seeds of spiritual wisdom and cultural heritage” in the tender hearts, minds, and souls of children, teens, and youth. This is no fleeting event; it’s a perennial movement, with annual prelims (like the upcoming edition i.e. ISO 2025-26) expanding across states and  Union Territories  drawing pledges of support from educators, parents, and institutions alike.

Sai Sharanagat’s tireless travels across India—from Delhi’s India International Centre to Kolkata’s educational hubs—underscore the Council’s grassroots ethos. He fosters dialogues that rally diverse stakeholders, ensuring ISO becomes a shared endeavour. Activities extend beyond competitions to include “Adhyatm Yagya” (spiritual rituals), “Sanskriti Yatra” (cultural pilgrimages), and “Gyan Pravaah” (streams of knowledge), inviting donations of time and resources to amplify divine connectivity.

Vision: Countering Degeneration with the Elixir of Spirituality

Sai Sharanagat’s vision is rooted in a stark diagnosis of contemporary woes: the erosion of family bonds and social cohesion due to a glaring absence of spiritual learning. “In an era where materialism captivates young minds,” he observes, “there is an urgent need for a spiritual panacea to make lives more blissful, meaningful, and worthwhile.” He posits that spiritual learning is the antidote to rampant evils—sexual abuse, drug dependency, corruption—by inculcating values that refine individuals into compassionate, self-realized humans.

At its core, this vision champions self-realization as the pathway to personal and societal elevation. By reconnecting youth with the universe and divinity, ISO awakens an inner compass, fostering resilience against moral decay. Sai Sharanagat envisions a “society of perfection,” where spiritually attuned individuals mend fractured families, fortify communities, and birth a “nation with a soul”—one that pulses with ethical integrity and collective harmony. His thoughts, honed through years of reflection, emphasize starting early: “Every child must imbibe spiritual knowledge from tender ages,” he asserts, to pre-empt the shadows of degeneration.

Mission: Spiritual Seeds from Childhood, Blossoming into Global Brotherhood

The ISO Council’s mission operationalizes this vision through a multi-generational, inclusive framework. Spiritual education begins in childhood, targeting the impressionable years when values take root most deeply. Children, as the primary participants, engage in age-appropriate modules that blend fun with profundity—exploring tales of ancient sages alongside modern ethical dilemmas. Teachers / ‘Resource Persons’ are empowered as facilitators, curating Olympiad sessions in classrooms, assemblies, while parents join as co-learners, participating in family-oriented workshops to reinforce home-based spiritual dialogues. Institutions, from schools to universities, are integral partners, hosting events and integrating ISO curricula to institutionalize this awakening.

Shri Bhai Ji’s blueprint extends to “global spiritual learning exercises,” positioning ISO as a borderless initiative. By drawing on universal spiritual principles—echoing India’s philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family)—the Council aspires to cultivate global brotherhood. He consistenly advocates for spiritual unity as the bedrock of enduring peace. The mission’s ripple effect? A cadre of enlightened youth who, through self-realization, become architects of a positive society—one that transcends divisions of caste, creed, or nationality, forging a peaceful world where humanity thrives in mutual respect and shared divinity.

A Call to the Divine Within: Building Tomorrow’s Legacy Today

Sai Sharanagat’s odyssey—from boardrooms to sacred forums—illuminates a truth as ancient as the Vedas: true progress lies not in material conquest but in spiritual conquest of the self. Through the ISO Council, he invites every child, educator, parent, and institution to join this divine roll-out, pledging support for initiatives that promise not just knowledge, but transformation. As the ISO 2025-26 Olympiad gears up, the message is clear: In sowing spiritual seeds today, we harvest a world of unbreakable brotherhood tomorrow.
